Knock Ireland
Around eight o'clock in the evening, on 21st of
August 1879, at the southern side of the Church of Knock, Our Lady appears. She is not
alone. At her side there are St. Joseph and St. John the evangelist. Our Lady wears a
white gable and on her head is a beautiful briljant crown. At the brow she has a lovely
rose and she holds her hands to the sky as if she is praying. At her right side, St.
Joseph is tanding with his his head bowed as if he is praying and honouring her. At her
lef side, St John stands with a book in his hand and the other hand uprising like he's
preaching. At the gable, just a bit to the right, there is an altar. On the altar there is
a Lamb standing. The lamb is surrounded bj angels. The angels are hovering during the
apparition. Behind the altar there is a large cross.
There were 15 people of vatious age who witnessed the
apparition during a two hours period. One of them a woman tried to reach Our Lady to
kiss her feet.
The Bishop of Tuam, Dr. John MacHale, did setup a
commission of inquiry to inves- tigate the apparition. In their report they mentioned that
they spoke to all of the witnesses. They also declared the witnesses were trustworthy,
satis- factory and reliable.

In 1936 the Bishop, Gilmartin, did setup a new commission
to hear the surviving witnesses again. All three witnesses, Mrs Mary O'Conell (aka Mary
Byrne), Patrick Byrne and John Curry testified what they had seen on that day in 1879. The
commission wrote, all the testimonies are upright and trustworthy. They mentioned the
testimony of Mary Byrne was very impressing. From her death bed she said.
"I am quite clear about everything I
have said, and I make this statement knowing im going before God"
On the 30st of september 1979, Pope John Paul II came to
Knock to honour the shrine in a special way. On this date it was exactly 100 years ago the
apparition took place.
The apparition in Knock was approved by the Holy see on
the same date the pope visited Knock shrine.
After the press published the news about the approval,
many cam to Knock. There are many reports of miraculous healings in Knock.
